My dad and I started this race 5 minutes and twenty seconds behind everyone. We got to the starting line and there was a group of people and we thought this was for the half but it was for the 5k. Fre told us that the Half Marathoners had already taken off so we hurried and took off. I am glad that I ran a pretty good time considering I haven't ran that much lately. Congrats to Holt, Kimzey, FRE, Ruth, Austin, Amanda, Kendrek and any other Pine View runners.

After we ran those miles we did some striders at the soccer fields. Then we ran it back, near the end we were going pretty fast! It was a good workout, and I was glad that I ran with a good group today.

I am officially mad at the Phoenix Suns for the trading of Shawn Marion, and Marcus Banks(Former DSC athlete), for the "Diesel" Shaq. On the other hand Shaq is the man! He is old and out of his prime though.

PM: I wasn't planning on running a second time, but  then I got bored at a mutual activity. We hiked to the Scout Caves by Snow Canyon Park. I started in the back and got bored of all the slow hikers, so I pulled ahead and started running. I got to the caves checked them out and ran back to my car. Since I ran back I had like 30 minutes until anyone else would come in. I ran 2 more miles on a bike trail. I was in pants so these miles I ran were uncomfortable.

Don't let a "time" get you down. The 800 can be a tough race. Remember also, the winner of an 800 doesn't always show at 400, 600, or even 700m, so in this kind of race you don't have to be upfront early to be in the best position to win.

Check out some of the 800m stories from this month's "running times". All the olympic 800m gold winners they profile were dead last coming into the last 100m.

I ran the first leg of this 10 man relay. It was  .76 long and 28 teams competed. I started out in the back of the pack and stayed with Austin. On the tough uphill we started passing everyone. I finished about 2 seconds behind Austin. Some dude took first and Karl took second(He probably would have won if he hadn't been sick). Austin said that he was the next guy behind Karl but my brother said he saw 3 guys before me and Austin. So me and Austin either took 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th. I didn't feel that good during this run but I thought I ran well. I know I was only close to Austin because he had ran 9 miles prior to this race. My team took 5th overall.

Allergies are beastly and they really can affect your running. But just like everything else in life, you need to learn to mitigate it and overcome it as best as possible. You took a major step by practicing today when you didn't think you could.

My dad and I ran up to the Y again only this time we started from the track. I ran a lot more on the actual trail this time. I was so dead after, then I had to run it down hill. After this we ran on the indoor track at BYU for a little bit and took a shower in the Locker Room.

Congrats to Goold for taking 6th in 800.

From Jonny on Thu, Jun 05, 2008 at 01:54:12

yeah, so I looked at my Garmin and it said that third mile was about .99 of a mile, the fourth was an extra 109.5 feet (which was eight seconds for me) and the last was only .92 (I came in at 5:21, which the watch said was like a 5:50 pace.)

So those times should all be pretty accurate, except for the fourth mile which was probably closer to 5:53. Anyway, good run today, it was fun.

All I have to say is that I love Monty. He came for the first time today. We ran the same 6 miler loop, except this time it was shorter with the new trail we took. I was just going to go the same pace as Monty (I was hoping slow). He was hauling through the whole thing so I did too. Austin, Trevor, and Kimz stopped at the Dixie Center and Monty, my bro, and I kept going. So we were in the lead for a while. Eventually those 3 Goolds caught us and things got competitive. I just went with Monty, I didn't care about the others. We came in behind Trev, Aust, and Kimz.

Call up Ashley and see if she could call Haley or Cassidy and see what they think. Ran up the "Black Hill" or "Ice House" from Zabriskies. This rocky, piece of crap hill kicked my butt in the summer so I had to redeem myself. I totally did, and ran a mile more once I got to the top. I ran back down and home, it was a longer run than I expected. I ran pretty well throughout the whole thing, and some guy on a scouter called me coach.

I thought this course was going to be fast, but the sand slowed us all down. It was like running in the Green Springs Desert. It was a pretty big meet with all the Nevada teams. I stayed right behind Ryan pretty much the whole dang race, he even whipped a tree branch in my face. I felt ok with this run, but still need to take it to another level. We took 13th, kinda good considering our Varsity team was really our JV team.

Congrats to the Varsity boys: I really really really really wish I was up there with you guys to watch you dominate. Or to run with you, but I'm just too dang slow.

I finally feel pretty good about a race! I lead for about the first mile, thought I could keep the pace but I eventually dropped back. The rainy weather made the race way fun! So I was satisfied with today, although I still need to improve. I made a bet with Dawson: If he beat me I would owe him 20 bucks, and if my team beat his he would owe me 20 bucks. Our bet cancelled each other out. Not sure on my official time at the moment.

I felt real good until about a mile and half in. I settled a little bit (I can't do that). I picked it up with a little under a mile to go and had an awesome kick. I finished 6th on the team today, by default. I just have to give it everything next race, and if I do hopefully I can run at state. Theres nothing else I can do but give it my best.

It was a slow course and I felt I gave it a good effort, but still could have done much better. I wasn't feeling it as much today. I'm happy I finished in the top 10, and that I ran on varsity for my final race. It was my first year running on varsity for region. Congrats to my team and Hayden and everyone.

My High School running career is over! I have a lot of regrets of stuff I could have done better. I also have many memories and things I am happy I accomplished. This year was definetely my best cross country season ever. Mainly because I finally did Coach Holts workouts right this year.

So I guess we aren't going to run in Phoenix. Which really sucks because I was getting really pumped for it. I thought I was as fast, if not faster than I was all season. Since were not going, I'm taking my break for a while.

Ultimate Frisbee

Cross Country Vs. Wrestlers

17-6. We absolutely dominated the wrestlers and they even had like 5 or 6 more people.

Willy and I weren't registered for this race so we made our own finish to make 13.1 exactly. Our goal was to break 1:25 because we weren't sure how much endurance we had since we have tapered for the end of our cross country season. I stayed head strong the whole time and I think I ran my best race ever!

Yep! I ran 20 miles. I had to run up the freakin steepest/rockiest hill in the Green Springs desert. Once I got to the top I kept on truckin. My goal for this run was to run until I found some deer. So about 10 miles into it up on Broken Mesa Rim I found a Buck and some does. I hiked and stalked a bunch of deer for a while. Then I ran back home and got 20 miles in. I have never ran this far before and they were all way slow miles because the trail I was running on was rocky the whole  way and mostly uphill.

Nice run! Even if they were all slow miles that is a lot longer than I have ever ran. What race are you training for, or are you just putting in some miles to stay in decent shape for track?

That's pretty cool to just get out there and run, see some wildlife, experience nature,...

I wasn't even going to run this race because I have been pretty sick the last 2 days and I am out of shape (gained 17 pounds since XC). Then I realized I would be one of the few to race on Pine Views new course for the first time. So I convinced Will to do it with me. We ran a warm up on the same course before the race. I was surprisingly feeling ok despite the cold, snow, and dirt we ran through. We ran the race and I was far behind the Coach, Austin, and Kimz. At the end I took a wrong turn because I used my garmin to try and get right at 3 miles. It was a fun run, and I needed this to boost my self esteem back into running.

You did a good job - and your wrong turn was actually the right turn! Let this be a goal to smash when we run it again in January! Have a good couple weeks - see you in the new year!
