Ran an easy 3, I'm still pretty out of shape. Today was the beginning of the end of my high school running career. My goals for track: Get back down to my stellar 142 pound, 5.9 body fat % body form (right now I weigh like 160). Break 2.10 in the 800 and break 5 minutes in the 1600. This is going to be hard because I haven't put in the work like I did for cross country.

My Lake to Lake team consisted of Ross Decker(Ex-DSC coach), Shaun Russon(DSC runner), Jeff Leavitt(DHS best runner), Corey Kimzey(PVHS stud runner), and me.

I was the first leg and got to the starting line with about a minute to spare. The gun went off and I hurried and pushed into the lead. My goal on this first leg was to just beat Bill Campbell. Jk, I just wanted to run under a 6 minute pace for the 6 miles. I lost the lead to some SLC runner about a mile and a half in and I let him keep it the rest of the way.

6.07 miles         time: 36:16/5:58 mile pace

I ended up running leg 8 because Shaun had some nasty blisters so we gave him an easier leg. I was not down for this leg at all. When Jeff handed off to me our team was about 3 minutes behind the Running Club team so I really had no motivation to push.

4.79 miles        time: 31:39/6:37 mile pace

It was a great race! I tip my hat off to Hayden, James, Dustin, Bill, and Nate on their victory, great job guys!

I tried kicking it on the last 100 but I didn't have anything left. Hopefully my times will keep improving once I get in better shape. It was nice to win a 800 race, even if it was in the slow heat. I also didn't want to run against pretty much 3of the fastest people in Utah. I started good but my soreness started to wear me down at the end. I guess I PR'd on this run though, so its all good.

4X800: I was on the slowest male 4X800 team ever! Not because of Man-chesthairs, or Rob but because of the lone gay kid on the team, Skyler Skott. I probably ran a 2:20 something.

The original plan was that I was going to bandit this 10k this morning. I don't even know what 10k it was called but things didn't really work out. My garmin wasn't ready when the gun went off so I started like 2 minutes behind everyone. Then I was just feeling sick so I backed off and decided to run with my buddy Jared Gentry. Then when running with him I pulled my hamstring. So overall a terrible "race attempt". Hopefully my hami gets better soon.

I took it easy yesterday to give my hami some recovery time. I tested it out today some light running and it is better but still a nagging problem.

We did the Oak Grove run tonight for wasatch. I struggled for the first couple of miles with my hami straining. Then I got to a point where my hamsting wasn't a problem at all, so sweet! I just cruised along and ran a solid workout. After I finished Ethans face was all swollen up and Ryan was lost or something. Crazy night, so I had to drive Ethans truck back to our meetin spot.

So my body is beat up for wasatch! I'm considering this relay my last "high school" race because I'm not satisfied with how XC or track ended for me and because I am running with all high school kids. I'm going to have to give each leg I do my best despite my injuries and all other crap that might occur. If I don't do my best I will be pissed!

Josh, no! The best and only thing you should do is run mileage... CONSISTENTLY!

Got to Bryce Canyon after killing a deer (by truck) the night before. I didn't know how this race was going to play out because I was feeling terrible before it. I wore my dads St. George Running Center shirt because he wasn't going to. The gun went off and I took the lead first thing. It ended being really a 2 man race between me and this high schooler. I hated the altitude, uphill and everything about this race except for the fact that it was shorter than 5 miles. So I finished 2nd overall, something I haven't done yet for a road race.

I was really tired for this one and didn't want anymore uphill. The weird thing is that Red Rock is way more downhill than the Wasatch Back but somehow I ended up running more uphill on this course. I wanted to run an AT with Pine View today to see how my speed is right now. I made the mistake of running with the varsity guys and they were going way to fast for me, so I only lasted like 4 minutes at a 5:40 pace with them. After I dropped out I went back to catch up with the middle guys doing the AT. I ran with Dyllen for about the last .75 of a mile. Then I ran home at like a 6:20 pace. I started out pretty much in the last of all the runners. I got stuck in a bathroom line forever! So I was 12 minutes behind the clock and had thousands of people to pass. Overall experience was really sucky because of injury. My achilles kept going out on me. If I didn't have this problem and didn't have to stop for some bathroom stops, I might have broken 3 hours. I felt pretty good except for those 2 problems. I was also 2 weeks too old to win the Silver Shoe Award for the age group 15-18, but Dawson got it so its all good.

Sorry about the problems, but still a decent race with your injury! 12 minutes behind the clock? WOW! But, I have to ask, didn;t you find that it was not too hard to get through the crowds when you started in the back? I was not as far back as you, but it just seemed easier to me then when I start with my right pace group.

Decker, what a gutsy race. You were pushing me the little while that we ran together. And after you dropped off, you didn't fall too far behind. I heard them call your name maybe 15 seconds after I crossed the line. You have a sub-3 in you. A little bit of serious training and the time might go down a little bit more. Great 1st marathon.

What do you mean "if you can get in decent shape"? You just ran a marathon 3 weeks ago so you are still in shape. The extra rest is probably doing your body some good. I know my body is enjoying the "layed back, run when i want to" break in my training.
